Clean Energy. Everywhere. Forever.

 The Path to Commercialization

General Fusion Overview

Fusion energy has the potential to transform how we energize the world and meet the growing global need for clean baseload power.

General Fusion is a leader in the fusion industry, developing practical Magnetized Target Fusion technology that is designed to address the key barriers to commercializing fusion.

The company’s world-class team of scientists, engineers, and business leaders has a proven culture of execution, with more than 20 years of experience designing, building, operating, and scaling test beds and prototypes. General Fusion is one of only a few companies worldwide to have achieved and published meaningful peer-reviewed fusion results on the path to the Lawson criterion.

The company is operating a large-scale Magnetized Target Fusion demonstration machine, Lawson Machine 26, and advancing toward important technical milestones: 1 keV, 10 keV, and the Lawson criterion. These are critical steps toward delivering practical fusion energy within the next decade.

Building Fusion Through Systems

Designed for Practical Fusion Power

As a world leader in fusion, General Fusion is advancing its Magnetized Target Fusion (MTF) technology, designed from the ground up to create a cost-competitive power plant. This approach combines plasma physics, mechanical compression, and liquid metal systems, with the goal of operating a first-of-a-kind plant by approximately 2035.

  • Integrates plasma formation, mechanical compression, and practical energy transfer
  • Uses liquid metal to protect the machine from neutron damage and capture and transfer heat to produce electricity
  • Designed for compatibility with existing power infrastructure

We Build It to Prove It

General Fusion’s program is built on operating real systems, from early prototypes to large-scale machines designed to demonstrate and validate the performance of practical Magnetized Target Fusion.

  • 24 plasma prototypes built
  • 200,000+ plasma experiments completed
  • LM26 demonstration machine built and operating

Tested, Published, Advancing

Each system advances through defined milestones, generating data, validating performance, and reducing technical risk on the path to commercialization.

  • 35+ peer-reviewed publications with significant, meaningful results for fusion
  • Ongoing experimental validation across core systems
  • Data-driven milestones informing next-stage design
